Connect Cable Internet with Ethernet
Step 1 – Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the internal jack in the rear of the cable modem.
Step 2 – Attach the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Network Ethernet jack on the computer. The jack is either on the back of the computer or the sides.
Step 3 – Allow a few moments for the “Computer Activity” light on the front of the cable modem to begin blinking. Double click with the mouse on the icon for your Internet browser on the computer’s desktop to complete the connection.
Connecting to Wireless (Wi-Fi)
Step 1 – Insert one end of the Ethernet cable to the “Internet out” jack in the rear of the cable modem. Attach the other end of the cable to the “Ethernet in” or “Internet” jack in the rear of the wireless router. Pug the power cords to the router and modem into the electrical outlets. Check that the lights are on for both of the devices.
Step 2 – Click on the Wi-Fi icon on your laptop if it has built-in wireless (most later model laptop computers do). On a Windows PC, look for a small antenna icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. For a Mac OS X system, look for the small icon in the top right corner of the screen, with curved lines.
Step 3 – Choose “Turn on Wi-Fi” or “Connect to Wireless networks” from the menu of options that pop up when clicking the icon.
Step 4 – Find your router name from the list of available wireless networks and click on it. If you have not created a router name yet, it is usually the brand name of the router. You can create a password at this time if you wish to and click “Connect” to establish an Internet connection.
