How to Install a Fax on the Internet

Setting up an Internet Fax Service Account

Navigate to a website that offers Internet fax services. Sites like eFax, MyFax and RingCentral all offer Internet fax services and offer free 30-day trials to ensure the services meet your needs (see Resources).

Sign up for a free trial account with the Internet fax service. Enter billing and contact information. The free trial period lasts 30 days. The Internet fax service will bill your credit card for the monthly subscription amount if you do not cancel your account within 30 days.

Check your email and confirm your account with the Internet fax service by clicking on the link inside the confirmation email you receive. Log in to your account and record your user name and PIN.

Sending Faxes through an Internet Fax Service

Compose a document with a word-processing application or other program. Internet fax services support most major word-processing file formats. Nevertheless, choosing a format such as “.doc,” “.pdf” or “tiff” will ensure the fax is compatible with virtually all fax machines that receive your faxes.

Save the document file and close the word processing application.

Open your email application. Compose a new email message. Browse to the document you created in the word-processing application and attach it to the email message.

Type the fax number of the recipient in the “To” field of the email message form. Append the fax number with the domain name of the Internet fax service. For instance, if using the eFax Internet fax service, enter the email address in the “[email protected]” format.

Compose a fax cover page by entering text in the “Message” area of the email form. Click the “Send” button in your email application to send the fax to the recipient.
